David Bohigian

Assistant Secretary for
Market Access and Compliance

David S. Bohigian was sworn in as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Market Access and Compliance December 21, 2005.

Prior to his appointment, Bohigian served as the Director of the Office of Policy and Strategic Planning at the U.S. Department of Commerce. His focus was economic and fiscal policy, as well as energy, manufacturing, trade, and financial services. He led several initiatives for the Department including furthering the National Energy Policy, opening markets for U.S. goods and services, and producing the Manufacturing in America report.

Before joining the Commerce Department, Bohigian served as a Managing Director of Idealab, which creates and operates a network of businesses. With Idealab, he served in several management positions for various portfolio companies, including Chief Executive Officer of Ice Jewelry. Later, he led operations for Idealab's London office, working to establish market share for U.S. companies in Europe. Bohigian joined Idealab after it acquired the company he founded, Washington, D.C.-based VenCatalyst. Prior to founding VenCatalyst, Bohigian was a partner at Jefferson Partners, a Washington, D.C.-based venture capital firm.

Bohigian received his J.D. from Washington University and his B.A. from Washington & Lee University. He is a member of the Missouri Bar Association and the Eagle Scout Association.
