Richard Chang
General Partner, Bowman Capital; former Sony executive and co-founder of Columbia Pictures Asia


Richard is a General Partner at Bowman Capital, one of the world's largest technology investment funds with assets under management that have exceeded US$6 billion. He currently splits his time between the firm's venture capital investments and public hedge funds. Richard joined Bowman Capital in 1999 as a co-founder of the firm's US$1.0B venture capital group. He has led the firm's investments in Alphablox, Andale, Atheros, Employease, Epicentric, Onebox (acquired by Openwave), Requisite, and Seven. His primary area of focus on the hedge fund side is in the semiconductor, hardware and wireless sectors where he is also responsible for the firm's public investment activities in Asia.

Richard is also a leading authority on media and entertainment, specifically with regard to Asia. Prior to joining Bowman Capital, Richard worked for Sony Corporation, where he ran the business development group in Asia for the Media and Entertainment Division. Richard was responsible for expanding Sony's U.S. operations in Asia and as such co-founded Columbia Pictures Asia (Producers of Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and Zhang Yimou's The Road Home and Not One Less) and Columbia TriStar Television Asia. He also served as CFO of SuperTV, Sony's Taiwanese Cable Channel and helped launch a satellite channel in India.

Prior to Sony, Richard worked in the Mergers and Acquisitions group at Lazard Freres, where he specialized in media and telecommunications. Notable transactions include Viacom's acquisition of Paramount and Seagram's acquisition of Universal Studios.
