Steve Schoenfeld
Managing Director and Head of International Equity Product Strategy, Barclays Global Investors (BGI)


Steven Schoenfeld is the chief investment and business strategist for Barclays Global Investors' international equity products, encompassing approximately $65 billion in developed international and emerging market index investments. This includes BGI's 34 international and global iShares exchange-traded funds. He also serves as BGI's Global Coordinator for Index Methodology, and is writing a book entitled Active Index Investing, to be published in 2003, which will provide a comprehensive overview of the art and science of managing index portfolios. BGI, headquartered in San Francisco, is the world's largest index and quantitative investment manager, with over $700 billion in assets under management.

Prior to joining BGI in 1996, Steven worked for five years at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) - the private sector affiliate of the World Bank -- where he helped develop the IFC Investable (IFCI) Emerging Market Indexes and structured the first index funds and derivatives based on the IFCI Indexes. Before joining IFC, Steven worked for seven years in the derivatives industry, including three years at the Singapore International Monetary Exchange (SIMEX) where he was a 'local' trading Japanese stock index futures.

Steven was a Fulbright Scholar in Economics at the National University of Singapore, holds a B.A. in History and Government from Clark University, and received a M.A. in International Economics and American Foreign Policy from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies
(SAIS). He is a member of the FTSE Equity Indexes Committee and Chairman of the FTSE
