America's Hidden Market: Building Your Business in ASEAN
What is the National Export Initiative and what does ASEAN have to do with it?
President Barack Obama announced the National Export Initiative (NEI) in January 2010. The NEI goal is to double US exports between 2010 and 2014. Historically, exports have been a major generator of jobs -- so in effect, the NEI is both a job-creation policy and a necessary effort to expand US production of goods and services.
ASEAN is one of the principal destinations for California exports, and its ten Southeast Asian member countries together constitute one of California's lead trade and investment partners. Singapore alone is one of the state's top 10 trading partners. Given the growth and dynamism of the ASEAN states plus their multiple intra-Asia and global trade and investment agreements, many more US companies could find success in ASEAN -- and Asia markets. Join us to learn how and why.
At our June 7 event, you will learn from our principal representatives to three member countries of ASEAN (the US Ambassadors to Brunei, Indonesia, and Singapore) how your firm can benefit from incorporating an ASEAN strategy into your template for growing your business in/with Asia. In addition to the ambassadors, representatives of the US Commercial Service Northern California offices will be on hand to introduce US Department of Commerce/International Trade Administration activities geared to support the NEI, and trade throughout ASEAN markets.
ASEAN represents ten member economies directly, but through the ASEAN plus 3 (China, Japan, Korea) arrangement, and FTAs (ASEAN-India Free Trade Area [FTA], the ASEAN-China FTA, etc.), ASEAN is a spring board to all of Asia and the biggest US overseas trade and investment partners.
Event sponsored by California-Asia Business Council, US-ASEAN Business Council and The Asia Foundation. Marketing sponsors include California Chamber of Commerce, Churchill Club, CSPA, HYSTA, Indonesia Professionals Association, Monterey Bay International Trade Association (MBITA), Malaysian Professional Business Association, SDForum, US Commercial Service SF, US Commercial Service Silicon Valley (list in formation). Hosted by SNR Denton.
